Sinus problems can occur for any number of reasons. Sinusitis may be caused by the lingering effects of a cold or flu, a sinus infection, an allergic reaction such as hay fever, or by more insidious allergies like sensitivity to chemicals in cleaning products or in personal care products.

Aromatherapy can be a powerful healing tool, and is one of the most effective ways to eliminate sinus problems. Certain aromatherapy oils can be used to break up sinus congestion and provide relief from sinus pain.

SINUS RELIEF OIL BLEND contains some of the best essential oils for sinusitis treatment.

The best way to apply this oil blend for sinus relief is via inhalation. Steam is a perfect vehicle, so a steam diffuser is a great choice. If that isn't possible, use a bowl of hot water and add a few drops of the Sinus Relief Oil Blend. Bend face-down over the bowl and cover head, bowl and all with a towel to steam for several minutes. Repeat as needed. Keep in mind Nasal and sinus tissues can be very sensitive. So just start with a very small amount. If you feel comfortable you can add more. Don't put the oil directly in the nose as this may sting.

Ingredients: Essential oils of Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Pine, Juniper and Rose Geranium, Extra Virgin Olive Oil

If you've ever suffered from migraines, the symptoms are all too familiar: extreme sensitivity to light or sound, nausea, a throbbing, pulsating pain.

Migraine is not just a headache, it is a neurological condition that research has shown is associated with a series of complex changes that occur within the brain and brain stem. These changes are a bit like a biochemical waterfall that, once started, is difficult to stop and they generate all the symptoms that make a migraine. Typically lasting for 2 to 72 hours, Migraines can be triggered by allergies, stress, lack or excess of sleep, or emotional and hormonal changes.

MIGRAINE RELIEF OIL BLEND is especially designed for migraines, but also for other types of head aches (like tension head ache, sinus or fever related head aches etc.), and you can use it in several different ways. Although this treatment can't actually stop the process of a migraine in the brain, they can help relive many migraine symptoms. You can use MIGRAINE RELIEF OIL BLEND in several ways - applied to the skin; in candles; in diffusers; inhaled from a bottle, tissue, or piece of cotton; put in your bath water; or added to hot or cold compresses.

Often a drop of the MIGRAINE RELIEF OIL BLEND on the temples will bring almost instant relief, or you can put 2-3 drops on the occiput (back of the neck) with a cold compress on top and some massage to the neck and shoulder can avoid the attack. You may dilute the essential oil blend in olive oil before applying it to your skin since all oils in the blend are pure and undiluted and very strong.

Ingredients: Pure undiluted essential oils of Peppermint, Lavender, Rosemary and Lemon

Treat yourself to some relief with this soothing concoction.

Muscles can hurt after a vigorous day of exercise or work, especially if you aren’t exercising on a regular basis and then really go for it. Activities that you repeat daily can also tighten muscles and cause them to cramp. The oil formula of this muscle pain treatment is excellent for lower back or shoulder pain, tight muscles from working at a computer, or the aftereffects of physical exercise. Even menstrual cramps, which are really little more than the cramping of the uterine muscle, respond well to this remedy.

Apply throughout the day as often as needed over the cramping area.

contains: St. John’s wort infused oil (as it is excellent for sore muscles), essential oils of lavender, marjoram, chamomile and ginger

A formula to fight cancer and other chronic disease conditions

Essiac or Essiac Tea is a blend of herbs used to make a tea or tincture that is believed to have cancer-treating properties. Originally used by Native American Ojibwa tribal medicine men, the recipe was rediscovered by a Canadian nurse, Rene Caisse, R.N. in 1922, as she was attending to a woman who had previously cured her breast cancer with an herbal remedy given to her by a North American Indian shaman in the 1890s.

The formula consists of four herb - turkey rhubarb, slippery elm, sheep sorrel and burdock root. Each of these herbs has its own special abilities to aid our bodies. For example, burdock root increases liver function and insulin production, sheep sorrel is good for liver function as well and toning the heart, turkey rhubarb cleanses the bowels and slippery elm is great for wound healing and protecting the body from toxins that are released as the body heals itself. Herbalists believe that these four herbs, while being awesome individually, work together synergistically to reverse devastating disease conditions such as cancer and diabetes.

This tincture activates the body's own natural defenses without becoming habit-forming.

The herbs used in this formula have significant therapeutic effects on the body, and when they are combined, there is a synergistic effect. This herbal formula normalizes body systems by purifying the blood, promotes cell repair, and is effective in assimilation/elimination. When used in conjunction with traditional treatment (i.e. physician), this tincture can stimulate self-healing capabilities and assist the body to rid itself of cancer.

A wide range of health benefits, including improved immunity, better elimination, detoxification, increased appetite, and a better sense of overall health and wellbeing, among others, have been reported with the use of the Detox 4 Herb Body Cleanse.

You don’t need to be seriously ill to enjoy this tincture – it can be taken at lower, maintenance doses too to help one stay healthy and detoxify regularly.

As far as side effects, you may experience temporary detoxification symptoms such as headaches, intestinal discomfort or perhaps a little nausea.

Here are the benefits what you can expect if using the Detox 4 Herb Body Cleanse:

•Helps to cleanse the blood

•Normalize the enzymes

•Promotes cellular repair, and aids effective assimilation and elimination

•Regulates cholesterol levels by transforming sugar into energy

•Makes bones and joints, ligaments, lungs strong and less vulnerable

•Nourishes and stimulates the brain and nervous system

•Expels mucus clearing the lungs

•Helps eliminate heavy metal toxins in tissues (aluminum, mercury poisoning)

•Purifies the blood

•Increases red blood cell production

•Protects the body against radiation damage

•Helps destroy parasites in the digestive tract

•Prevents the buildup of fatty deposits in heart kidney and liver

•Assists the liver in producing lecithin, which forms the myelin sheath that encapsulates the nerve fibers

The ingredients and health benefits of Detox 4 Herb Body Cleanse are as follow:

Sheep sorrel has been known for over 100 years as a cancer fighting herb. It also has anti-leukemia activity. Sheep sorrel contains antioxidants, is a diuretic, and has been used to check hemorrhages.

For centuries burdock root has been regarded as an effective blood purifier that neutralizes and eliminates poisons from the body, including radiation (due to the niacin content). Burdock also supports the bladder, kidney and liver and has been said to dissolve kidney stones. It also contains an abundance of minerals, particularly iron. Studies have shown anti-tumor activity in burdock.

The inner bark of the slippery elm tree is well-known for its soothing and healing properties. It reduces inflammations such as sore throat, diarrhea and urinary problems. It contains beta-sitosterol and a polysaccharide, both of which have shown anti-cancer activity.

Turkey Rhubarb has been shown to have anti-tumor activity. It is diuretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and has been used extensively to relieve constipation.

Suggested amount: 20-30 drops diluted in a glas of warm water, 1-3 times per day. preferrably 2 hours before meals or upon rising and again at bedtime.

Ingredients: Burdock Root, Rhubarb Root, Sheep Sorrel Herb, Slippery Elm Bark, grain alcohol, distilled water

This tincture is a concentrated herbal extract made with pure grain alcohol and distilled water. It is made by steeping the herbs in the alcohol/water mixture for several weeks, then straining the solution.

Certain molecules are more soluble in alcohol, and thus a tincture will have greater availability of those molecules. If only water is used to brew the herbs in tea, this means that helpful uncharged molecules are unlikely to be adequately dissolved in the brew. The advantage of a tincture over a solely water-based formula is that having alcohol as a solvent effectively dissolves both types of solutes.

In terms of convenience, a tincture is more easily stored compared to tea, as it does not need to be refrigerated and also requires less storage space due to its concentrated nature. Tinctures are also easier to prepare than teas, which require a lengthy boiling process. Another advantage over tea is that the alcohol in Detox 4 Herb Body Cleanse acts as a preservative, whereas teas are more prone to spoilage.

BLACK WALNUT-WORMWOOD-CLOVES COMPLEX is an extra strong alcohol based tincture made from these three herbs: Black Walnut Green Hulls, Cloves & Wormwood. Those 3 herbs have been traditionally used as a herbal remedy against human parasitic animals, parasitic bacteria, parasitic viruses and fungi. Black walnut hull and wormwood kill adults and developmental stages of at least 100 parasites. Cloves kill the eggs. Only if you use them together will you rid yourself of parasites. If you kill only the adults, the tiny stages and eggs will soon grow into new adults. If you kill only the eggs, the million stages already loose in your body will soon grow into adults and make more eggs. BLACK WALNUT-WORMWOOD-CLOVES COMPLEX is a natural remedy for treating intestinal parasites, such as flukes (Fasciolopsis Buskii), sheep liver flukes, pinworms, threadworms (Enterobius Vermicularis), hookworms, round worms (Ascaris Lumbricoides), tapeworms (Fish tapeworm), etc. and as a treatment for Candida Albicans, also called Candidiasis. It can be used for adults, children and pets (excluding horses).

Most plants existed hundreds of thousands of years before we humans "arrived". These plants had to find their way to survive and to reproduce. They had to be stronger than their enemies: insects, worms, caterpillars, fungi-yeasts, amoebas, bacteria, viruses, snails, etc. Most plants developed a wide arsenal of "chemicals," and those chemicals were used for protection against insects, worms, amoebas, bacteria, and viruses.

Black Walnut developed strong protection for its seeds/nuts. The green hull of black walnut contains several potent chemicals, strong herbicides, fungicides and vermicides, including Juglon.

Wormwood developed strong protection for its leaves and flowers. Among other chemicals, wormwood also contains Thujon, a potent toxin/vermicide, virucide, and antibiotic.

Cloves developed strong protection for its flower buds. No other herb is as potent an egg vermicide as cloves are. These three plants have been highly appreciated by humans for many generations.

Suggested amount for children (Childs Weight in pounds /Dosage/Day)

15 pounds

1 drop 3 times a day = 3 drops/day

20 pounds

1-2 drops 3 times a day = 4 drops/day

30 pounds

2 drops 3 times a day = 6 drops/day

50 pounds

3-4 drops 3 times a day = 10 drops/day

60 pounds

4 drops 3 times a day = 12 drops/day

100 pounds

6-7 drops 3 times a day = 20 drops/day

120 pounds

8 drops 3 times a day = 24 drops/day

When you start the treatment, you can begin with 1 drop 3 times a day and then gradually increase the dose. Take a 7 day break after 14 days of treatment and then repeat the same treatment again.

Suggested amount for adults

When you start your treatment, you can start with 3 drops 3 times a day, and then gradually increase the dose. You can increase the dose up to 10 drops, or, if you feel no negative reactions, you can also continue increasing up to 20 drops.

Take a 7 day break after 14 days of treatment of BLACK WALNUT-WORMWOOD-CLOVES COMPLEX, and then repeat the same treatment again.

A typical treatment with parasite cleanse would be 2 weeks + 1 week break + 2 weeks = 5 weeks. If you have a severe illness or you have been unsuccessfully treated for a parasite infection it is recommended that you repeat the treatment at least 4 times, with 1 week break after every treatment.

A parvovirus is a small virus, or infective agent, that commonly causes viral infection in pets, particularly dogs. Symptoms typically include high temperature, nausea, shock, dehydration and digestive problems such as vomiting and bloody diarrhea. If left untreated parvovirus can be lethal, and small, young pets are most susceptible to its damaging effects.

This tincture is a blend of herbs that will help control and eliminate the Parvo virus. The herbs used in this formula focus on the immune system and the distressed gastrointestinal tissues that are the cause of vomiting and diarrhea. It is used to treat the Canine Parvovirus by eliminating vomiting and diarrhea, stimulating the appetite, and repairing the damage caused by the virus. It can also be used as a preventative measure if you feel that your dog or puppy has been exposed to the Parvovirus. It is most important to use the tincture as soon as possible in this case.

The tincture is soothing and healing to the animal's digestive system and addresses other general and nonspecific gastrointestinal problems too. It is also an immune booster and when administered before symptoms arise, can prevent your pet, even puppies, from contracting parvovirus.

The herbs in this formula are known to help sooth and heal the digestive system, stimulate appetite, calm nerves, alleviate stomach pain, heal tissue, stimulate the immunte system and raise white blood cell levels. It also acts as a mild, gentle sedative and is an antimicrobial which kills viruses and bacteria.

Rosehips are anti-inflammatory, high in Vitamin C and help to get rid of diarrhea

Looking for the ultimate in natural flea & tick protection? Try the Natural Herbal Flea, Tick and Mosquito Control Remedy for Dogs.

Natural Herbal Flea, Tick and Mosquito Control Remedy for Dogs kills fleas, ticks and mosquitoes for up to four weeks, yet it’s safe to use on your pets and around your family when applied as directed.

How Does Natural Herbal Flea,Tick and Mosquito Control Remedy for Dogs work?

Certain plants contain compounds that give them the ability to defend themselves against insects. Natural Herbal Flea,Tick and Mosquito Control Remedy for Dogs is a synergistic blend of botanical extracts including peppermint oil, cinnamon oil and lemongrass oil. This combination of oils significantly enhances the pesticidal activity of Natural Herbal Flea,Tick and Mosquito Control Remedy for Dogs. How? Octopamine!

Octopamine is a key neurotransmitter found in insects, it is the insect's equivalent of adrenaline. It regulates their heart rate, behavior and metabolism. The unique molecular structure targets and blocks octopamine neurotransmitter receptors in insects. Blocking octopamine results in a total breakdown of the insect's central nervous system. As mammals, fish and birds have no receptors for octopamine, the ingredients do not have this affect on them... or people!

Toxic chemical pesticides have been known to cause immediate health crises in some dogs and cats, and perhaps worse, these chemicals can circulate and accumulate in our pets' bodies, doing unseen damage to vital organs that may go undetected for years. And then there is the damage these chemical residues can do to our children, ourselves, and the environment.

Natural Flea, Tick and Mosquito Remedy for Dogs is a natural alternative to the harsh and harmful chemical based flea and tick repellents.

The Natural Herbal Flea, Tick and Mosquito Control Remedy for Dogs come in three sizes:

0.5 oz/15 ml glass dropper bottle

1 oz/30 ml glass dropper bottle with included plastic pipette

3.4 oz/100 ml glass dropper bottle with included plastic pipette

Apply suggested amount once a month as a spot or stripe, starting high on the back of your pet's neck to in front of the shoulder blades. In order to help reduce the occurrence of fleas and ticks , this product is best if used year around.

Suggested Dosage:

Small dogs 1-2 droppers full

Medium dogs 2-3 droppers full

Large dogs 3-5 droppers full

Normally the flea remedy works right away and kills adult fleas and ticks on contact. But in some cases flea infestation can be very bad and the fleas are overwhelming. As the fleas hatch from eggs and develop from larvae, they come in contact with the product and die. If there is an unusually high amount of hatching fleas, the product may need to be reapplied. In this case make sure you put it on the body parts of your dog where fleas are most present, like your dog’s neck, back, hindquarters and belly. It is totally safe to reapply any time.

I also suggest having the dog out of rain or water for 24-48 hours to insure that the product has dried.

Shake well before using

Please Note:

This product has a strong herbal smell but not unpleasant. I have had some reports of reactions such as skin irritation and hair loss at the site of application, especially if used on dogs with very fine fur and skin sensitivities . In addition, the oils in this formula may temporarily discolor white hair or fur. I recommend testing the product initially by applying a few drops in nape of the neck, and wait 24 hours to evaluate any response before applying the full dose. If you do see an adverse reaction, wash your dog with a shampoo or dishwashing liquid that contains detergents, as this is the most effective way to remove the oils causing the reaction.

I do not recommend this product for cats. Unfortunately essential oils and cats don't fit. Essential oils can be toxic to cats, whether taken internally, applied to the skin, or simply inhaled. Why can cats not tolerate the oils? There are several reasons. The major one is that they cannot metabolize them the way that dogs or humans can. (they also cannot metabolize certain herbs or allopathic meds. either).

Maya healers and midwives used bajos, an ancient healing practice. Bajos (ba-hoes) is a Spanish word that translates to Vaginal Steam Bath. Traditional Korean healers used this healing method as well, they call it chai-yok. Healers use the vagi-steam (vagina steam) to aid women with chronic fertility issues, as well as to maintain healthy fertility.

The steam from the herbal tea rises and absorbs into your skin & orifice. This steaming treatment stimulates the production of hormones to maintain uterine health, aids regular menstrual cycles, helps correct digestive disorders while soothing the nervous system. The natural antibiotic and anti-fungal properties are said to help maintain internal health as well as keeping your skin looking young.

The combination of 14 different herbs work to nourish, tone, heal, bring in fresh oxygenated blood, promote cleansing, and make supple the vaginal and uterine tissues. The moist heat opens the pores of the tissues it comes into contact with. The water vapor carries the medicinal benefits of the plants, including volitile oils. This is absorbed into the tissues and enters the bloodstream, having a direct healing affect on the reproductive system. Vaginal tissue is one of the most absorbent of the entire female body.

Women who may benefit from vagi steam would be those with the following conditions: uterine fibroids, painful menstruation, uterine weakness, uterine prolapse, irregular menstrual cycles, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, reproductive adhesion/scar tissue, previous vaginal tear or episiotomy, and dark purple or brown blood at the onset or end of menses.

In some cases a woman should not do a vagi steam, these are: extremely heavy menstrual cycles, do not do during your period, if you have a vaginal infection, open wounds, sores, or blisters, do not do if you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant.

Spa’s across the U.S. are offering traditional vaginal steam baths. This therapeutic treatment goes for a pretty penny. An average cost of a 30 minute vagina steam session cost between $50-$75.

How to do a Traditional Vagi-Steam

You need a slatted chair or modified stool/chair to let steam through. And a large stainless steel stock pot, large enough to boil a gallon of water.

Boil 1 gallon of water with 1 cup (about 25 g) of Vagi-Steam Herb Blend for 10 minutes. Continue to steep off of the stove for an additional 5 minutes. Place pot or bowl under the chair/stool. Test how hot the steam is. Put the inside of your forearm over the steam to test. Remember your genitals are very sensitive to heat, you do not want to burn them! Do not sit down until the steam is comfortable for you. Sit down. Be sure you are not wearing underwear and none of your clothing is hanging in the pot. Cover your entire lower half, all the way to the ground with a blanket. Wrap another blanket around the upper half of your body. Keep it wrapped around you, stay warm. Steam for 20-30 minutes. Keep warm, go to bed for 1 hour.

Be careful over the next 24 hours to protect your entire body from cold drafts, keep warm and avoid any sudden temperature changes.

Reduce your suffering from nerve pain with this gentle and effective formula.

The nerves in your body register pain, so when nerves are damaged, the condition will be quite painful. Injured nerves take a long time to regenerate, but aromatherapy treatments can help with the process. They initially relieve pain, and people who use them appear to heal more quickly than others.

Essential oils of lavender, chamomile, and marjoram are excellent at easing the pain of a pinched nerve or sciatica. A less well-known essential oil called helichrysum is specific for this condition. Apply the oil directly on the back or hip to reduce pain. It is also wonderful on painful shingles. People with serious nerve-related problems, such as multiple sclerosis and chronic fatigue syndrome, get noticeable pain relief from the Nerve Pain Treatment Oil. For carpal tunnel syndrome, rub this oil into the wrists.

Since nerve conditions can be difficult to heal, talk to someone skilled in natural medicine for more ideas on how to treat them.

Apply as needed throughout the day for pain relief.

contains: St. John’s wort infused oil, essential oils of lavender, marjoram, chamomile and helichrysum

This treatment is for external use only! Do not take internally!

We love our dogs. . .but just like kids they can get into things they should not eat. Here is a list of 10 food items that you should never feed your dog:

Tomato stems or leaves

Pits from peaches or plums

Rhubarb leaves

Sugary foods

Now for the reasons WHY you should not feed your dog -

Chocolate - chocolate, especially baker's chocolate is dangerous to dogs. Cats are mostly unaffected since they do not like the taste of chocolate; however, dogs love it. Chocolate contains various chemicals which are called methylxanthine alkaloids and some types of chocolate have more of these chemicals than others. Relatively small amounts of chocolate can cause serious problems such as constriction of the arteries and increased heart rate. Large amounts may cause even more dire symptoms and a pound of milk chocolate could possibly kill a 16 pound dog. Make sure your children understand how important it is not to feed your dog chocolate.

Onions - onions, garlic or anything from the onion family contain sulfoxides and disulfides known to damage red blood cells and cause anemia. Raw onions can cause liver damage. Cats are more susceptible than dogs. Avoid onion (or garlic) powder as ingredients in any food you are feeding your dog or cat - this includes dog and cat food.

(A WORD ABOUT GARLIC: When used in moderation, garlic can be a healthy supplement. Garlic can be used to stimulate and support immune function, trigger gastric juices for better digestion, encourage the growth of friendly bacteria, and prevent infections. Garlic reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer as well as improves blood sugar regulation and promotes detoxification. Aged Garlic Extract could be the most suitable form, particularly for long-term use.)

Tomato leaves and stems - The green parts of the tomato plant are considered toxic because they contain solanine, which has the potential to produce significant gastrointestinal and central nervous system effects. However ripetomatoes, the part of the plant typically used in food products, are not toxic.

Pits from peaches, plums or other fruits with pits - all fruits with pits can cause an obstruction in the digestive tract.

Raisins - grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure - just a few raisins can kill a dog.

Rhubarb leaves - these leaves contain oxalates, which can affect the digestive, nervous and urinary systems.

Sugary foods - just like in humans too much sugar could lead to dental problems, obesity, and possible diabetes mellitus.

Tobacco - because tobacco contains nicotine, it could affect the nervous and digestive systems causing rapid heart beat, collapse, coma, and death. If your dog eats cigarettes it releases toxins throughout their bodies.

Bones - large bones that cannot splinter are usually ok. If your dog can chew them up do not use them. Soft bones like chicken and fish are definitely bad. If you have a dog with a larger set of jaws, it is possible they could bite off and swallow a piece of bone too large for them to pass, this would be very dangerous and possibly life threatening. Be careful with bones since they can cause obstruction or laceration of the digestive system.

Nuts - All nuts contain fats, which can lead to gastrointestinal upset, such as vomiting and diarrhea. Foods with high fat contents can also potentially produce an inflammatory condition of the pancreas known as pancreatitis. In addition, many commercially sold nuts are salted-and if a pet consumed a large volume of salt from the nuts, this could potentially pose a risk for the development of a sodium ion toxicosis.

Here's an irony; Something nasty tasting can help you recover your taste for life's sweetness. A preparation called bitters, often made from such herbs as Wormwood, Mugwort or Gentian, can help ease depression's effects on the body because of the stimulating and enlivening effect of bitters on the digestive system. This is because the part of the nervous system that primes the digestive tract, the parasympathetic system, also relaxes the mind. Remember that depression is not just a state of mind; it affects the entire body's physiology. Bitters improve endocrine and digestive process, lift energy, and help to treat constipation, a common symptom in depression. Bitters are readily available in herb stores, including my store in a variety of liquid extract forms. Take the extract with meals, at a dose of 30-60 drops in water three times per day.

The recipe for this blend is believed to have originated from thieves during the 15th century. According to popular theory, the concoction was created by a group of four thieves and grave robbers to protect themselves from contracting the plague while robbing the bodies of the gravely ill and deceased. When apprehended, the thieves admitted to using the formula and disclosed the recipe in order to receive a less severe punishment for their crimes.

Whether or not this story is true, the essential oils in this blend are antiseptic, antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-infectious. They will stimulate the immune system, circulation and respiratory system, and help protect against the flu, colds, bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throats, cuts, and more. Modern testing has shown the effectiveness of this blend and studies have found it to have a high kill rate against airborne bacteria.

There are many ways that you can use the blend, here are some of the most common applications:

To sanitize and purify the air in your home or workplace, place 2-3 drops of the essential oil blend in a diffuser, nebulizer, or in a pot of simmering water on the stove. Diffuse for approximately 20-30 minutes. This is especially beneficial if someone in your home or workplace is sick.

Make an antibacterial all-purpose spray for cleaning and disinfecting your home or workplace. This is perfect for office spaces and shared areas! Fill a spray bottle with water and add the essential oil blend at a 1-2 % dilution rate. Spray on counter tops, desks, and on other surfaces. Make sure to shake before using as the oil and water will naturally separate.

Use a 1-2% dilution rate of the essential oil blend in a base of water or alcohol, and spray onto insect bites, poison oak, and poison ivy rashes to help reduce inflammation, itching, and irritation.

Mix the essential oil blend at a 1-2% dilution rate with organic Jojoba or Olive oil. Use as a massage oil for sore muscles, the lower back, neck, and feet. It can also be dabbed on skin throughout the day for general cold and flu prevention and immune support.

When congested, mix a 1-2% dilution rate of the essential oil blend with organic Jojoba or Olive oil, and rub under the nose or on the chest. Or, place 1-2 drops in a bowl of hot, steaming water and inhale the vapors under a towel to relieve congestion.

* Essential oils are highly concentrated, strong, and powerful liquids that can be harmful if not used carefully and properly. I advocate caution when using them, and do not recommend using essential oils internally. Please keep essential oils out of reach of children.

You can purchase HEALTHY FOLKS ESSENTIAL OIL BLEND in my online store. I have it available in 10 ml and 30 ml (1 oz). Just click on the links below:

The term "oil" in herbal medicine can be a confusing matter without clarifying exactly what type of "oil" we are talking about.

There are two very different types of oil-based herbal medicines. They are known as essential oils and infused oils. Both essential oil and infused herbal oil are made from herbs or plants. Infused herbal oils are diluted, while essential oils are pure concentrated oils.

Essential oils cannot be made easily at home. They are the pure plant oil, usually extracted by chemicals or hot steam. Hundreds of pounds of fresh plant material may produce only ounces of essential oil. Essential oils are readily available commercially. They are used in aroma therapy, as insect repellents, and to increase local circulation.

Essential oils are intended for external use. They can be fatally poisonous if taken internally in quantity. They are also highly irritating to the mucus surfaces of the body (genitals, mouth, eyes, etc.) and may cause allergic skin reactions in some people. Be certain to keep all essential oils well out of the reach of children.

Infused oils can be made at home. They are usually reserved for external uses, but could be taken internally without disastrous results. Infused oils are much less potent than essential oils and have none of the associated side effects.

Infuse herbs in any type of oil: olive, safflower, apricot, coconut, etc. The lighter, clearer oils are expensive; they produce delicate and beautiful infused oils. Olive oil is my personal choice; it rarely turns rancid, is absorbed easily into the skin, adds its own healing benefits to the preparation, and is available inexpensively.

Infused herbal oil is prepared by crushing or chopping the plant, or herb, and placing it into oil, such as jojoba, or olive oil. The properties of the plant are then infused into the oil for several weeks before straining the plant from the oil using cheese cloth. The plant or herb is then discarded. Infused plant oils carry some of the properties of the plant, but are not concentrated because they are diluted by the other oil.

To make infused herbal oils like Calendula and St. John's Wort, I use a traditional process called digestion. Digestion is a very low heat, prolonged extraction designed to draw out the plant's bioactive compounds. I usually use food-grade, cold-pressed extra virgin Olive oil to make my infused oils. Fixed oils dissolve many of the same compounds that dissolve in alcohol and the resulting infused oil represents a whole herb extract of the plant.

Essential oils come directly from the plant or herb and contain no other oils or ingredients. To produce essential oil a distiller is required. An essential oil distiller works by passing steam over the plant or herb. The steam carries the properties of the herb to a condenser. The condenser collects the plant oil and cools it eventually dripping the plant oil back into a receptacle called a collector. Because they are very concentrated essential oils should not typically be applied directly to the skin. Instead, they should be added to a carrier oil, such as jojoba, olive, or apricot kernel oil.

Essential oils are the highly aromatic, active plant oils that are commonly used as fragrances, flavorings and in aromatherapy. These oils tend to evaporate or volatilize fairly easily at moderate temperatures. It is this volatile character that allows their aroma to reach your olfactory receptors and be perceived as fragrant. Natural essential oils occur in complex combinations that have a fairly specific composition for each plant. In herbs like Peppermint, Lavender and Cinnamon, the unique phytochemical composition of each oil is responsible for the highly distinctive aroma of the plant.
